A CATALOGUE OF WORKS POLISH ARTIST AND JEWISH ARTISTS FROM POLAND IN MUSEUMS IN ISRAEL
Description
The largest collections of works by artists from Poland is that in the possession of the Ein Harod Museum of Art. Many important works are located in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and in the Tel-Aviv Museum of Art. Paintings by Maurycy Gottlieb are in the collection of the Weizmann Scientific Institute in Rehovot. Works by artists who were killed or were persecuted in the Holocaust, during the Second World War, are located in the Lohamei Haghetaot (The Ghetto Fighters’ House) near Haifa,
the Yad Vashem Museum of Art of in Jerusalem, and in the Oskar Ghez Collection at the University of Haifa.
In all, the present catalogue records 2367 works by 198 artists. The works from the museums in Israel contained in this catalogue constitute a precious heritage of the art and the spirituality of Polish
Jews, which belong to the culture of Poland and Central-Eastern Europe and to the traditon of international artistic centres, especially Paris.
